Read MoreThe OM Szopienice Branch in Katowice is a plant belonging to Cognor S.A. The company focuses its activity on the production of bronze rods and tubes, zinc casting alloys, and zinc alloys for galvanizing process. The produced tin-lead and tin bronzes are used for the production of elastic and wear-resistant elements, and with increased lead content they are used for the production of bearing bushings and shells, as well as fittings and components used in water environments, including sea water. The company introduced a lead-free alloy smelting technology (CuSn4Zn2PS Rg+), which is currently used by manufacturers of fittings for drinking water installations.

Over the past few years, the OM Szopienice Branch has made significant investments in this area, launching three new continuous casting technological lines and a modern transformer station powering the entire production plant. The old, energy-intensive casting lines have been replaced with new technological equipment that consumes less energy per unit of product, making them much more environmentally friendly. To date, three projects have been completed, co-financed by the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice, and the National Centre for Research and Development. These projects resulted in three new continuous casting lines. The company has also modernized two old casting lines and the dust extraction systems. Efforts are ongoing to improve working conditions, reduce electricity consumption, and lower pollutant emissions.
