Quality Control

All products manufactured by COGNOR OM Szopienice in Katowice are tested by its own specialized laboratory. Detailed inspection conducted during all production shifts ensures the highest quality of products delivered to customers, meeting specific technical requirements.

Quality control covers all parameters specified by the customer, as well as requirements outlined in relevant standards. Key parameters include product dimensions, chemical composition, and mechanical properties. Notable advantages of having an in-house laboratory include comprehensive quality control from raw materials through the analysis of chemical composition in liquid metal samples, to testing of samples from finished products. The laboratory also provides support to customers with analysis of samples they provide.

The entire quality control process and laboratory testing are carried out by qualified personnel who are independent of the production department. Based on the results obtained, customers of COGNOR S.A. OM Szopienice in Katowice can receive appropriate quality documentation, including a 3.1 Certification of Conformity (according to EN 10204) issued upon request.
Mechanical Properties Testing
The laboratory at OM Szopienice in Katowice is equipped with advanced machinery for testing mechanical properties, including::
- Static Testing Machine (Zwick/Roell)
- Hardness Testers (Brinell / Vickers / Rockwell, Zwick/Roell)

 
Testing and Analysis Services
The laboratory offers sample testing services for customer-provided samples. These services include:
- Chemical Composition Analysis of non-ferrous metals and their alloys (Cu and Cu alloys; Zn and Zn alloys)
- Mechanical Properties Testing: static tensile testing, hardness testing (Brinell / Vickers / Rockwell)
 
Sample Preparation
The laboratory is equipped with facilities for preparing samples for further testing. With a wide range of appropriate tools, the laboratory can process samples of various non-ferrous metal alloys, delivered in different forms, including chips. Key tools include:
- Laboratory Chamber Furnace
- Laboratory Induction Furnace (capacity up to 2 kg Cu)
- Double-Disc Grinder/Polisher
- Laboratory Milling Machine
- Disc and Band Saws
- Laboratory Balance


 
Chemical Composition Analysis
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments that enable nearly instantaneous chemical composition analysis of a wide range of samples. Key equipment includes:
- Two Stationary Emission Spectrometers (ARL 3460 by Thermo Fisher Scientific)
- Mobile Emission Spectrometer (SPECTROTEST TXC01)

These spectrometers are equipped with analytical databases that allow for detailed chemical composition analysis of the samples. The primary materials tested include:
- Copper and copper alloys
- Zinc and zinc alloys
- Aluminum
- Tin
